In heat, however, it can melt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Genuine leather:<\/strong> elegant and durable. However, it is expensive and does not like water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Felt:<\/strong> soft and quiet. However, it absorbs coffee and water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cork:<\/strong> natural and non-slip. However, it stains quickly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plastic:<\/strong> robust and inexpensive. However, it burns and often smells.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aramid fabric such as the FireMat:<\/strong> fireproof, non-slip and wipeable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why the material matters when things get hot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A desk often holds a laptop, charger and lamp. If they get hot, a plastic mat can melt or catch fire. A mat made of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aramid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aramid<\/a>, on the other hand, does not continue to burn. That makes it the safe choice, especially when charging batteries.
