Sometimes a window or a hatch serves as the emergency escape. The emergency escape sign marks exactly such places. It bears the symbol D-E019 according to DIN 4844-2. The sign is made of 1 mm thick PVC, is self-adhesive and has a long afterglow.

Product details

Symbol: emergency escape (D-E019)

Standard: DIN 4844-2, listed in the German ASR A1.3

Material: PVC, approx. 1 mm thick

Photoluminescent according to DIN 67510-1

Weather- and UV-resistant

Self-adhesive back

Sizes: 300 × 105 mm or 400 × 140 mm

Where does the “emergency escape” sign go?

The sign goes directly on or above the emergency escape, for example above a window that serves as a second escape route. The path to it must always be kept clear. In addition, it should be possible to open the escape without tools in an emergency.

Is the marking mandatory?

In German workplaces, yes. The technical rule ASR A1.3 sets out how safety signs look and where they go. In addition, ASR A2.3 requires escape routes and emergency exits to be clearly marked. That is why offices, schools, day-care centres and public authorities need the right escape route signs. Read more in our guide Escape route signs.

Which size is right?

The size depends on the distance from which the sign should be recognised. According to ASR A1.3, a height of 105 mm means around 10 m. With a height of 140 mm, the sign can be recognised from around 14 m. 300 × 105 mm is therefore usually enough for smaller rooms. In larger rooms, choose 400 × 140 mm.

Why photoluminescent?

The film stores light from its surroundings. If the power fails, the sign continues to glow greenish for a while. This keeps it easy to see even in the dark. The film complies with DIN 67510-1, the standard for photoluminescent safety signs.

Installation

The back is self-adhesive. Clean the surface thoroughly beforehand. It should be smooth, dry and free of dust and grease. Then peel off the protective film and press the sign firmly into place. On rough walls, however, it holds better with screws or mounting tape.

Matching signs

You can find more signs in our categories escape route signs and flag and angle signs.
