User manual for the FireMat Silk Edition and Green Silk Edition

The FireMat Silk Edition and the Green Silk Edition have one side with a silicone coating. In this FireMat user manual you will find the most important instructions for using the mats correctly. For the induction hob we recommend the Silk Edition; the Green Silk Edition is intended for use under electrical appliances.

Important first

FireMat is suitable for induction hobs. It is not suitable for normal ceramic glass hobs, because there the glass plate itself gets hot. Wikipedia: Induction cooking explains how induction works.

How to use the Silk Edition on the induction hob

1. Place the mat on the cold hob.
2. The shiny side is the non-slip side. If it faces up, the pots do not slide. If it faces down, the mat lies firmly on the hob and you can slide the pot back and forth more easily. Both sides are possible, depending on what you prefer.
3. Place the pot in the middle and cook as usual.
4. Let the mat cool down briefly after cooking.

How to use the mat under electrical appliances

Under electrical appliances you can use either side. Simply place a coffee machine, kettle or microwave on it. Read more in Fireproof mat for electrical appliances.

Cleaning

• Wash the mat at 60 °C.
• Use a liquid detergent that is not strongly alkaline.
• Do not use fabric softener, bleach or optical brighteners.
• Let the mat air-dry, not in the tumble dryer.
• Dry cleaning is not possible.

Frequently asked questions about FireMat

Does the induction hob work through the mat?

Yes. The magnetic field passes through the thin mat. The pot therefore heats up as usual.

Can I use the mat on a gas hob?

No. Never place the mat directly on an open flame. For gas hobs, there are dedicated protective mats under grill mats and gas hob accessories.

How do I store the mat?

Lay it flat or roll it up loosely so that it stays smooth. Creases from delivery disappear after a few hours on the hob.
