VdS 2000: Fire protection in the workplace
Electrical appliances such as coffee machines, microwaves or kettles can cause a fire.
Companies should therefore place these appliances on a fireproof mat. This recommendation can be found, among other places, in the German guideline VdS 2000 “Fire protection in the workplace”, a set of rules issued by the property insurers.
A fireproof mat also makes sense in private households. Further guidance for offices can be found in the DGUV Rule 115-401 and, for Bavaria, in § 8 of the VVB. Anyone who ignores these rules takes considerable risks in the event of damage.
The FireMat Black Edition, for example, is well suited for office kitchens. It is certified by TÜV SÜD according to DIN EN ISO 11925-2.
Managing directors of small and medium-sized companies often ask: what is a fireproof mat made of, and where can you buy one?
Such a base is either a plate made of stone, ceramic, glass or metal, or a mat made of fireproof special fabric, for example the FireMat Black Edition.
They are available in various sizes. The idea behind them is simple: if an electrical appliance catches fire, the plastic usually melts and drips down while burning. The fire can then spread, for example across the worktop. This is exactly what a fireproof mat is meant to prevent. In the household, the benefits are even greater: you can also use the mat when barbecuing or as spark protection in front of the fireplace.
