Fire safety infotainment: using electrical appliances safely at work

Coffee machines, microwaves and toasters belong in every staff kitchen. They make everyday life easier, but they are also a common cause of fire. On this page, short videos and simple tips show how to use electrical appliances safely at work.

Where is the risk?

In many workplaces, hot appliances stand directly on a worktop made of wood or chipboard. This material burns. Add overloaded power strips, damaged cables and appliances running unattended. A regular risk assessment helps to spot such hazards early.

How to reduce the fire risk

Place coffee machines, kettles and toasters on a fireproof mat.
Do not plug power strips into one another.
Have electrical appliances tested regularly.
Switch appliances off at the end of the working day.
Train your staff in the safe use of the appliances.
