How much does a desk mat cost? Prices by material

How much does a desk mat cost? That depends mainly on the material. Size and quality also play a role. Here you will find an overview of typical prices. You will also learn what to look for when buying.

Prices by material

The following prices are rough guide values. They vary depending on the manufacturer and size:

• Plastic or PVC: about 10 to 30 euros. Inexpensive and easy to care for.
• Felt: about 15 to 40 euros. It is soft, but sensitive to stains.
• Fabric: about 10 to 40 euros. It is versatile and often printed with a design.
• Cork: about 20 to 50 euros. Cork is natural and also non-slip.
• Faux leather: about 20 to 60 euros. It looks elegant and is still easy to care for.
• Glass: about 30 to 100 euros. Glass is smooth, modern and therefore easy to clean.
• Genuine leather: about 50 to 150 euros. Genuine leather is high-quality and therefore very durable.

What to look for when buying

• Size: The mat should hold keyboard and mouse together.
• Surface: Smooth for writing, soft for the wrists.
• Slip resistance: The mat must not slide while you work.
• Care: Wipeable or washable is practical in the office.

Which size fits is explained in How large should a desk mat be?. The article Which material for the desk mat? also compares the materials.

Fireproof desk mat from FireMat

Fireproof desk mats are a special case. They protect the desk, for example when soldering, doing crafts or under chargers. The FireMat desk mat is therefore fireproof, wipeable and non-slip.

Is an expensive desk mat worth it?

That depends on how long you sit at your desk each day. Anyone who works there for many hours quickly notices the difference. A good mat lies flat, does not slip and lasts for years. A cheap desk mat costs less, but often wears out faster. A high-quality model therefore usually pays off over the years.

Conclusion

A simple desk mat therefore costs from about 10 euros. For leather or glass, on the other hand, you pay considerably more. If you also want protection against heat and sparks, choose a fireproof mat.
