A protective mat for the Thermomix protects the worktop from heat, scratches and liquids. The appliance gets warm underneath when cooking. It also vibrates when kneading and moves slightly across the worktop. Here you can read which protective mat is suitable for the Thermomix.
What is a protective mat for the Thermomix for?
- It protects wooden or laminate worktops from heat.
- It catches splashes and spills.
- It prevents scratches when you move the appliance.
- A non-slip mat holds the appliance in place when kneading.
Many people also place the appliance on a wooden worktop. But wood does not cope well with heat and moisture. A mat prevents light stains and swollen edges here.
Which materials are there?
- Ceramic or stone: heat-resistant, but heavy and hard
- Metal: robust, but can scratch the worktop
- Silicone: non-slip, but tolerates less heat
- Aramid fabric like the FireMat: fireproof, soft and washable
The FireMat under the Thermomix
The Silk Edition works well under the appliance. Its non-slip side holds the appliance in place, even when kneading. It is made of aramid. In addition: certified by TÜV SÜD according to DIN EN ISO 11925-2. You can wash off dirt at 60 °C in the washing machine. Choose a mat large enough for the whole appliance to stand on it.
Which size fits?
Measure the footprint of your appliance and add a few centimetres all round. That way, splashes when filling also land on the mat.
For other appliances too
The same mat is suitable for other food processors, bread makers and multicookers. They also get warm or vibrate when kneading. Simply wipe off splashes of dough or sauce with a damp cloth.
Safety notes
- Follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions.
- Keep the ventilation slots free.
- Leave space above, as steam escapes when cooking.
- Do not trap the cable under the mat.
