What is a fire blanket?
A fire blanket, often also called a fire extinguishing blanket, is a small fire extinguishing device used specifically to combat initial fires. Similar to a fire extinguisher, it is ideal for the initial tackling of fires before they can spread. If you wish to purchase a fire blanket, you will find the right selection in our range.
How does a fire blanket work?
The way a fire blanket works is based on cutting off the oxygen supply, which smothers the fire. Made from flame-retardant wool or materials such as fiberglass fabric or Nomex, it effectively isolates the source of the fire from the air.
Areas of application and suitability
Fire blankets are particularly suitable for initial fires, but are only suitable for grease fires to a limited extent, as scientific studies show. Due to the risk of burning through at high heat, special grease fire extinguishers should be used in areas such as restaurants where grease fires are possible. Nevertheless, it is advisable to have a fire blanket ready in every household or business. To be optimally prepared in an emergency, it is recommended to also have additional fire extinguishers on hand. Before purchasing a fire blanket, it is important to seek expert advice to ensure that the chosen blanket is suitable for the specific area of application.
