What is FireMat? Material, editions and uses

FireMat is a fireproof mat made of high-performance fibres. It protects tables, worktops and hobs from heat and fire. That is why companies, public authorities and schools place their electrical appliances on it. At home, many also use it on the induction hob. FireMat is made in Germany. Here you can find out what FireMat is, what it is made of and what you can use it for.

What is FireMat made of?

FireMat consists of Panox and para-aramid. These fibres are also used in firefighters’ protective clothing. That is why they permanently withstand up to 300 °C, do not melt and are self-extinguishing. Read more in Fireproof fabric made of aramid fibres. The Gold Edition, on the other hand, is made of a thicker fabric of Lapitron and para-aramid with a polysiloxane coating. It has also passed the fire test for cargo compartment linings in aircraft: a flame of around 1,000 °C did not get through.

Which FireMat editions are there?

• Black Edition: the classic, in many sizes from 19 x 19 to 70 x 100 cm.
• Silk Edition: with a non-slip coating. That makes it ideal on the induction hob and on smooth surfaces.
• Silk-A Edition: with an aluminium surface. It repels water and oil and is therefore ideal under electrical appliances.
• Green Silk Edition: non-slip coating, in green.
• Gold Edition: withstands up to 800 °C, also for outdoor use.

What is FireMat used for?

• Under electrical appliances in the office: in Germany, the DGUV Rule 115-401 requires a non-combustible base for coffee machines and kettles. More in Fireproof mat for electrical appliances.

Who buys FireMat?

Tax offices, schools, nurseries, public authorities and companies throughout Germany have relied on FireMat for years. The reason: FireMat is certified by TÜV SÜD according to DIN EN ISO 11925-2. This lets them prove during fire safety inspections that their mats are tested. That is why many order 30 to 50 at once, one for every appliance in the building. Care and cleaning

Simply wipe off light dirt. If FireMat is very dirty, wash it at 60 °C with liquid detergent. Do not use fabric softener or bleach. All details in the washing instructions.

What FireMat is not

FireMat is not a building material in the legal sense. Where the law requires a non-combustible building material, such as a floor plate in front of a wood-burning stove, it does not replace it. FireMat is also not suitable for ceramic hobs, only for induction.
